Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant Installation

The installation of photovoltaic panels allows the conversion of solar energy into electricity in a clean and sustainable way. Installing a photovoltaic solar power plant offers many advantages, such as reducing electricity bills, diversifying energy supply sources, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

A grid-connected photovoltaic installation follows the basic diagram shown below. The photovoltaic generator is responsible for converting solar energy into electrical energy in the form of direct current (DC), which is proportional to the solar radiation captured by the solar generator. Since it is not possible to connect the DC current from the photovoltaic generator directly to the electrical grid, an inversion to alternating current (AC) is performed by inverters synchronized with the grid. This DC current passes through the inverter, which converts it into AC current with the same frequency and voltage as the electrical grid for immediate consumption.

An off-grid photovoltaic installation follows the basic diagram shown below. The photovoltaic generator is responsible for converting solar energy into electrical energy in the form of direct current (DC), which is proportional to the solar radiation captured by the solar generator. The energy produced by the photovoltaic panels is stored in solar batteries. These batteries ensure the electrical supply under all circumstances (day, night, cloudy skies).

Solar pumping installations allow electric pumps to operate autonomously. These pumps are most often submersible or surface pumps in the agricultural sector, but solar pumping systems can also be used for domestic or pool pumps. In these pumping solutions, the solar panels are connected to a solar pump inverter or variable frequency drive (VFD), which in turn is connected to the pump. The VFD operates “with the sun,” meaning it converts the energy received by the solar panels to directly power the pump without battery storage. The advantage of using a VFD is that it adjusts the pump’s flow rate based on the solar radiation received by the panels: when the sun shines brightly in a clear sky, the flow rate will be high, and when the weather is cloudy, the flow rate will be lower.
